Jerry Yang wins 2007 WSOP Main Event!
It is finally over and a new king has been crowned. The 2007 World Series of Poker $10,000 Tournament that lasted just over 15 hours and started with 7 relatively unknown pro players has come to an end. The new champion, Jerry Yang, 39, has become the newest WSOP champ, after winning his seat from a $225 buy-in satellite game in California. Yang is a psychologist and social worker, as well as a father of 6 children. "I am a very, very part-time player," he said. "As a father of six, I don't have a lot of time to play [and use] just a little change here and there." Yang has plans to donate a portion of $8.25 million dollar winnings to four different charities. Jerry Yang, who had throughout the final table play had prayed to God about winning has had his prayers answered. It all came down to the last hand in which Tuan Lam held AQ, the hand poker pro Doyle Brunson says he doesn’t like to play, against Yang’s pocket 8’s. On that final hand, Yang raised $1.5 million and Lam went all in. The flop came, Q 9 5, giving Lam the large advantage, until the turn showed a 7 and the river a 6. Yang ended with a 9 high straight and the win. Not only did Yang win $8.25 million, he also won the coveted WSOP Main Event bracelet which features 136 grams of 18-carat white gold, set with 120 diamonds.
